My name is Anneke Rinia and I am a Ashtanga teacher.
I started with yoga in 2018 around the age of 51. I had worked really hard and got lost in the process. I was in a burn-out. I met an acquaintance, which I hadn’t seen for a long time, and she told me that there was a new yogastudio. She adviced me to join in order to heal. So to get back on track I started to eat healthy and stroll to Het Yogaschooltje 2 or 3 times a week.
I was in a really bad shape; I had an injury in my knees (from jogging), I couldn’t reach my feet in forward bending, I couldn’t raise my arms over my head without feeling the intercostal muscles hurt, I couldn’t get a towel between my toes because they were so cramped and when I laid on my back I wondered why my shoulders were next to my ears. Actually there was no body-awareness whatsoever.
So I started doing all sorts of yoga until … there came a teacher who taught Ashtanga. From the first lesson I was totally hooked. I love this form of yoga.
During corona I wanted to know more about the backgrounds and the spiritual aspects of yoga. So I joined an Ashtanga teacher training, not with the intention to teach. But to practice for the exams Hannah arranged a session for me to teach students. Turns out I really liked teaching.
So here we are: I am more flexible and relaxed. I still have an injury in my knees because even yoga cannot heal that bit.
I want to invite everyone to my lessons, no matter how inflexible or stiff you are. Nobody can be in a worse shape then I was. There is just more room for improvement!
